Land Navigation - Basic - Hands-on

 **Class Limited to 10 Students**     

 Gain confidence and build skills with this very comprehensive Land Navigation Class. 

     We all have a mental "tool-box" of navigation knowledge. This class will add to that box, giving you many different tools to use to find your way!

     From absolute novice to skilled navigators, this class offers something for everyone! You will leave with an increased confidence and a greater depth of understanding wilderness navigation!

     *A healthy mix of classroom and in field training*

• Map and Compass Parts/Terminology
• Using your compass as a protractor to plot courses
• Understanding and using UTM Coordinate system
• Understanding and using Contour Lines
• Longitude and Latitude
• Scale and Distance
• Proper use of the Maine Atlas and Gazetteer
• Celestial Navigation
• Tips to keep yourself on track
• How to take and follow an Azimuth through the woods

What to bring?

• Compass - *NOTE* (Please bring a base-plate compass with azimuth ticks mark increments of 2 degrees.)(See below)
• Notebook/something to write with
• Woods Hiking Attire - Long pants, hiking boots, etc
• Insect Repellent
• Water Bottle
• Day pack
• Rain gear (class will happen rain or shine!)
• Packed Lunch
